Arbonne RE9 Advanced Firming Body Cream- reviewed and recommended

Arbonne has just launched two new lines (color cosmetics, which we’ll be reviewing very soon) and the RE9 Advanced range of skincare. The “breakthrough” idea (according to Arbonne) behind RE9 Advanced is to take a vitamin C supplement along with topical treatments aimed at boosting collagen production. I am not a big believer in the body’s ability to efficiently process supplements, still I’m prepared to give the skincare products the benefit of the doubt and over the coming weeks will be reviewing some samples, starting with the Firming Body Cream ($68).

This body cream redefines the phrase “sinks right in”. Every time I have used it, Arbonne RE9 Advanced Firming Body Cream just seems to be absorbed within milliseconds, leaving my skin feeling comfortable, hydrated and somewhat firmer. Like the rest of the RE9 range, it has the stamp of a head of research who used to work at Aveda. Think botanicals.

I like the fact that it has seabuckthorn (hippophae rhamnoides), a plant that has plenty of quercetin. This is an important flavenoid and some researchers believe that quercetin is a more potent antioxidant than the much-hyped resveratrol. The aging amongst us, will be pleased to see that isoflavones, which have chemical structure that is similar to estrogen (the hormone we women start to produce less of as we reach menopause), are here thanks to a plant called pueraria lobata, more commonly called kudzu. A native of Japan, this plant is now rampant in North America (if you see trees covered with some invasive vine, it may well be kudzu). So if nothing else, Arbonne is probably doing the Environmental Protection Agency a favor by finding a use for it.

Moving away from botanicals, it is worth giving a shout out to hexapeptide-10, which also goes under the name of serilsenine and is made a Spanish company called Lipotec. A hexapeptide is a chain of six amino acids that stimulate cell activity by interacting with specific molecules. The result is that collagen is rebuilt and fine lines are supposed to be reduced and pore size reduced. Incidentally, hexapeptide-10 is also favorite of the South African brand Dermaxime.

    Ingredients

Water, sunflower seed oil, stearic acid, shea butter, dimethicone, squalane, cetearyl wheat straw glycosides*, glycerin, cetearyl alcohol, orange peel oil, hippophae rhamnoides oil, imperata cylindrica root extract, oat kernal extract, lamaria digitata extract, pueraria lobata root extract, ginger root extract, plankton extract, hexapeptide-10, tocopheryl acetate, tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, panthenol, carbomer, acrylates/C10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer, sodium PCA, butylene glycol, polysorbate-20, sodium hydroxide, caprylyl glycol, caprylhydroxamic acid, limonene, linalool, citral.

The world of direct selling is stepping up its game.

Earlier this week we told you about
Votre Vu and its vision to offer luxury French skincare at affordable prices. Now, Swiss skincare company Arbonne International has revamped their anti-aging line RE9 Advanced, and launched a new cosmetics range featuring light-diffusing technology.

RE9 Advanced combines nine (hence the name) anti-aging ingredients and botanicals to deliver, Arbonne claims, visible results within 24 hours.

Sr. Vice President of Product Development Peter Matravers says of the line, "I've never seen such high performance in such a short time. We've made discoveries that plants can signal our skin to regenerate.'

Sure, he's biased, but Matravers does bring up an interesting point: One of RE9's key ingredients is stabilized vitamin C. Over the past fifteen years, the vitamin has become a common skincare ingredient for its anti inflammatory and antioxidant properties, but, Matravers points out, not all "C" is created equal. If the form of vitamin C used is not stable, it will not remain potent enough to benefit the skin.

RE9 uses brown algae extract to enhance the activity of the vitamin C and give quick, impactful results. "It wakes up fibroblasts and stimulates the production of collagen," says Matravers.

Following with Arbonne's internal/external approach (the brand also carries a selection of beauty and heath supplements), RE9 Advanced includes the
Collagen Support Daily Supplement with antioxidants and other "skin supporting nutrients" touted to speed up results.

Arbonne also just launched a 22-piece line of cosmetics featuring Optilight Technology to diffuse light for a soft-focus effect.

Included in the collection is the
Lash Enhancer, which they claim results in an average 20-30% lash increase. And as we know, women love their long, sexy lashes.

Now, if Arbonne could deliver those in 24 hours,
    ding-ding-ding, we'd have a winner.

    ANOTHER testimonal

Okay folks. When you are shopping for your skin care, one of the first things we look at is the advertising claims. If these claims address our needs, then we make the purchase. But how many times have you purchased products only to find out these claims as baseless? I know I have. But that ended when I became a customer of Arbonne. Arbonne's claims are from end users, customers like you and I. Here is another testimonial from a 3rd party which is not paid by Arbonne.

What the industry is saying about FC5

Skincare range uses new botanicals extraction process

    By Simon Pitman, 03-Mar-2009

California-based personal care provider Arbonne has introduced a skin care range that taps into a new extraction process for botanicals.

The technology has been used to extract cell nutrients from five nutrient-rich fruits and vegetables – kiwi, carrot, strawberry, mango and pumpkin – selected because of their skin nurturing and anti-aging properties.

    Exclusive extraction technology

Arbonne says that it is the exclusive provider of this technology which basically allows the extraction process to be carried out in such a way that allows the botanical phytonutrients to remain encapsulated, thus ensuring optimum freshness.

The FC5 hydrating skin care range includes eight products, with combinations that target dry to normal skin, oily to combination skin and two specific products – hydrating under eye cream and an exfoliation - for any skin type.

A cleanser/toner, oil-absorbing day moisturizer with SPF 15 and mattifying powder are targeted at oily skin, while a hydrating cleanser, day lotion with SPF 15 and a night cream have been developed for the dry to normal skin types.

Arbonne says that the range will be launched in North America, Australia, and the UK as well as being made available for online purchase from the company’s own internet shopping site.

    Tapping into naturals trend

The launch of the new range taps into the major trend for natural botanical ingredients. Indeed, the swing towards botanical-based active ingredients is helping to make a pronounced impact on the overall market for personal care ingredients.

According to information from Kline Group growth of botanical actives stands at 8.0 percent, ahead of 5.4 percent average growth for other specialty actives, such as marine ingredients, proteins and peptides, and enzymes.
